How do I setup passwordless authentication?

Last updated on Nov 07, 2023

With the introduction of our new authentication portal, we also offer the option of passwordless authentication. After setting up this option, you will never have to remember your username or password again.

Requirements

If you want to use an Apple device as your "keyholder" please make sure that you have installed iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 at least. Also ensure that iCloud Keychain and Two Factor Authentication are turned on for your iCloud account. We recommend that you also setup FaceID or TouchID. More information about the requirements can be found in the Apple User Guide.

Android devices can also be used as a "keyholder". Android 9 is the minimum version your device should be running. Before Android 14 the passkeys get stored in the Google Password Manager, starting with Android 14 users can choose their own credential management app. We highly recommend to setup biometric authentication (fingerprint, face, etc. ) on your device.

Windows devices can also be used as a place to store keys. If you wish to use your Windows device to authenticate with your account you'll need Windows 11 at least. Newer versions (22H2 or 23H2) natively support passkey management via the Settings menu.

While Windows supports storing passkeys we strongly recommend you to use your external device to store them. Otherwise you need to register each new device with our platform before you can sign in without a password. By using the smartphone as the keyholder you can sign in with your smartphone, even when visiting our site on a different device.

MacOS also supports passkeys. You'll need at least MacOS 13 for this to work. If you also use an iPhone or iPad you'll see that the passkeys are synched if you're logged in on the same iCloud account. If you are logging in on someone elses Mac device you'll need your external keyholder.

Setup on iOS, iPadOS or Android

The process of setting up passkeys is very similar on both Apple and Android mobile devices.
